Built on medieval ramparts and sitting 340 metres above sea level on a rocky promontory of the Vaucluse mountains, Hotel Bastide de Gordes offers the most breathtaking views of the famous Luberon mountains and rolling green hills that surround it.

Ranking as one of the most beautiful villages in France, the village of Gordes is a medieval walled labyrinth of tall stone houses and cobbled streets that has inspired a plethora of famous artists like André Lhote, Jean Deyrolle, Pol Mara and Victor Vasarely.

Built in the 16th century, hotel La Bastide De Gordes sits at the edge of this picture perfect village and is famous for its maze of walls and winding roads that spiral up and down the fortifications. The castle’s architecture has remained relatively unchanged since its time as a home for a Count of Provence but it still reflects the character of the French village around it which remains beautiful and unspoiled.

Bastide recently underwent a painstaking total refurbishment to transform the ten thousand square metre living space to create five buildings with 40 rooms and suites, three restaurants, a bar, four swimming pools, the large Sisley spa, five conference and function rooms, the stepped gardens and seven terraces.

The three restaurants at Bastide de Gordes are truly special and well worth a try. L’orangerie, a provencal style bistro sat amidst the raised gardens has exposed beams, large windows and light dishes that all combine for the perfect  laid back dining experience. Located at the heart of the village is La Bastide de Pierres an Italian restaurant covered by a shaded terrace where you can sit with a bruchette and take in the view.

Last but not least is our favourite restaurant at Bastide: La Citadelle. Sitting outside on the terrace in the evening is the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic dinner whilst you take in the breathtaking panoramic view.
