He becomes deeply connected with each space or building he works on, observing its orientation and how daylight affects it. He sketches by hand to explore and develop designs, and has a holistic approach to architecture, interiors, furniture and landscape.

Spencer’s early training at technical school, where he practised woodwork, metalwork and technical drawing, turned him into a fine draughtsman and gave him a love of raw materials. He delights in the integrity of noble materials and loves to work with marble, oak and stone using hand-crafted finishes and interesting natural or historic materials. Functionality is never compromised, yet he pushes boundaries with detail, always upgrading and raising the benchmark. He excels in attention to detail, and works with teams of specialist craftsmen using traditional techniques alongside cutting-edge technology.

The renovation and extension of the Wild Rabbit turned the traditional Cotswolds pub into a contemporary inn with a stunning dining area together with a number of beautifully appointed bedrooms for guests to stay over. Extending the dining area with timber and glass, removing several small rooms to make one large area, and restoring the stonework throughout, has resulted in a light airy space that is inviting, comfortable space for guests to enjoy.

Log burning fires and upholstered window seating ensures the space still feels warm and welcoming even in the cooler months.

Spencer employed local craftsmen to work with local materials to produce the furniture and fine detailing seen throughout the inn. With such a incredible level of attention to detail paired with a design aesthetic that perfectly suits the surroundings, Spencer has transformed the Wild Rabbit into the perfect Cotswolds inn.
