The Double Red Duke is a 19-bedroom, 17th-century hotel in Clanfield, Oxfordshire launched by Sam and Georgie Pearman. This beautifully renovated Cotswolds retreat showcases the best of brilliant British craftspeople, artisans and companies. If you recognise the Pearman name it may be because they relaunched the 26 bedroom Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire which was one of their first projects for Country Creatures.
The Double Red Duke has beautiful terraces set in front of the wisteria clad building, perfect for walkers to stop for lunch now the weather has warmed up!
The interior design by Georgie Pearman features her trademark layering of antiques, beautiful wallpapers and rustic floor coverings all brought together in colourful lamp-lit snugs, sitting rooms (and a 12 seat feasting room) to create a cool, cosy and inviting atmosphere. Using British artisan suppliers, Georgie has created another truly special hotel designed to make you feel instantly at home.
Food is at the heart of the Double Red Duke and the menu is centred around an open grill kitchen. Recruiting award-winning chef, butcher, restauranteur and food writer Richard Turner of Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue fame was a master stroke, and he now works with Sam Pearman, and Head Chef Richard Sandiford on this incredible menu.
Consisting of grilled meat, fish and vegetables accompanied by a host of sides and small plates; the menu is thoughtful, interesting and instantly appealing – think grilled rose veal chop, wild fish on the bone and vegetarian mixed grills.
