This light, bright and airy Nickleby kitchen by Humphrey Munson is designed with modern family living in mind. The homeowners have a large extended family and love to host at home so designing the kitchen to accommodate these gatherings was crucial.
The traditional cast iron AGA is the focal point of the space with a large false canopy above – and as is always the case with this iconic range – it becomes the hub of the kitchen. As the AGA is turned off during the warmer summer months, this kitchen also includes a Miele microwave and steam oven which is located in the island, and the Miele 2 zone induction hob is positioned to the left of the AGA. Opposite the Aga is the large Sub-Zero fridge freezer with the Nickleby bespoke cabinetry and a tall cupboard to the left for storing dry goods.
The island serves as the main food prep area but also has seating for three, making it a really multi-functional space. The butler sink faces out across the entrance to the home with the pull out bin and dishwasher located close by for convenience while clearing away after meals.
The cabinetry in this kitchen is predominantly painted with the paler off-white shade used on the base cabinetry, with a bolder grey/taupe colour on the island. Westminster smoked oak is a unique finish to HM and is used in this kitchen for the accent pieces including the two corner curved cupboards, seating area at the island, the pair of three drawer chests either side of the AGA and also the integrated trays in the island.
This is a large open plan space with the main dining area positioned adjacent to the kitchen, so we also incorporated a large freestanding Nickleby cupboard for storing all the crockery, tableware and glassware.
