PROJECT DETAILS
For the young family moving into this restored period property set in the rolling hills of beautiful Kent, this project is the epitome of cool country living. Embracing the simplicity and understated style of the Georgian era, the design of this project was very much focused on creating a calm, welcoming and above all, homely look and feel.
Kitchen
The main cooking run has a large four oven AGA housed in a false chimney with hidden extraction above, and antique effect mirror splashback behind and niches built into the chimney either side of the AGA. Countertop space either side means extra space for food prep too. To the left of the cooking run is a large cook’s pantry with a Miele microwave with open space either side for chopping boards. To the far right of the cooking run is a Sub-Zero fridge freezer. A brand very much known for its appliance longevity, this Sub-Zero was recycled into this design from the previous kitchen. Both homeowners love being in the kitchen and they love to cook! The countertop baking cupboard provides essential storage for ingredients, with space for countertop appliances below. More storage in the cupboard below is used for baking equipment.
Island
This is an island centric kitchen around which family life revolves. Used for food prep, there is a small under-mount prep sink with boiling hot water tap. Beneath the worktop is a Miele oven, dishwasher, pull out bin and Sub-Zero wine cooler. Both the Miele oven and Sub-Zero wine cooler have been recycled from the previous kitchen. Seating at the island provides a convenient spot to serve the children breakfast in the morning, but also a great spot for serving pre-dinner drinks to friends in the evening.
Scullery Run
The main scullery run includes aged brass taps and a large Kohler sink overlooking the beautifully landscaped garden. Adjacent to this is an integrated bench seat providing further storage and adorned with plush cushions offering a calm and comfortable spot to relax with a coffee and a good book.
Dining Area
The dining area in this kitchen was a vital part of the design; used daily as an informal spot for a busy family and close friends to sit and enjoy a meal without the formality of using the main dining room. It’s also a great place to store / serve wine within the bi-fold doors, store everyday glasses and tableware and display photographs and decorative accessories.
Snug
Just beyond the kitchen, through two pocket doors sits the cosy snug. Welcoming sofas and integrated cabinetry offer a peaceful refuge in which to relax whilst dinner is in the AGA in the adjacent room. The fireplace is an original feature of the property with a small TV cabinet to the left and a hidden desk with shelving to the right, both designed and manufactured by Humphrey Munson and finished in HM Farthing Pale.
Boot Room
With a love for the great outdoors, the homeowners needed a boot room to provide somewhere to kick off muddy boots and to dry wet coats. Finished in classic oak this bench seat with overhead artisan shelf and pegs means hacking jackets, riding hats and boots can be easily put on or stored away.
Utility Room
The utility room is finished in HM Tailored Grey with aged brass hardware. It’s everything you need in a large country house – plenty of space for washing and drying laundry, storage galore (more is always more!) and overflow cooling thanks to the huge Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer.
Flooring throughout the hallway, kitchen, dining, boot and utility room is Fairford Natural Limestone from HM Flooring Library, while the beautiful natural fibre Sisool carpet in the snug is from Crucial Trading.

PROJECT DETAILS
If it’s true that “people buy houses in London with their heads and houses in the country with their hearts” then the restoration of this historic Grade II listed Tudor manor house is nothing short of heart-warming.
We worked with the clients on this project to create a huge open plan kitchen and dining area as well as a second apartment kitchen in a separate wing. and designed, manufactured and installed cabinetry for other rooms including the study, master bathroom and dressing rooms.
For us, this project is the epitome of classic English design. Originally four smaller rooms, we worked with the clients and the architectural team to re-configure the space to comprise this large open plan kitchen with space for a large 10 seater dining table and soft seating area.
The Longford cabinetry doors in this kitchen really suit the traditional English look and feel of the property while the Portobello dark oak finish on the island and cabinetry interiors quietly reflects the heritage of this historic home and works perfectly with the neutral colour palette from the bespoke HM paint atelier.
Cooking Run
The focal point is the large false chimney with a Lacanche Belmont range cooker positioned centrally to ensure the space retains a true sense of symmetry and balance. The island, enormous by anyone’s standard, is proportional to the space and gives the family of five their perfect space: “for us, designing this kitchen was all about making the space work for us as a family and it really does. We love the island and life in the kitchen really revolves around this space”.
Island
The island and cabinetry interiors are finished in our bespoke Portobello dark oak – a beautiful finish that really suits the heritage of this home. The island acts as the food prep area with the main sink located centrally – this makes cooking really intuitive and easy with the range cooker located behind. On the front of the island at either end are two integrated Fisher & Paykel cool drawers which can be set to refrigerate or freezer depending on what’s needed.
To the left of the Lacanche range cooker is a large countertop appliance cupboard with an integrated Miele microwave and plenty of space below for storing servingware and pans. With doors opening on a bi-fold, it means this countertop cupboard can be easily left open while cooking for ease of access. To the right of the Lacanche are two Sub-Zero integrated fridges with fridge / freezer drawers below.
Scullery Run / Drinks Pantry
Between the kitchen and the living area, are two peninsulas – one is used as a desk area for catching up on emails and this one also houses the Miele coffee machine with Zip tap located below. On the other side is a small scullery area with two dishwashers with a crockery cupboard concealed in the pillar – really handy for putting things away after emptying the dishwasher.
Walk In Pantry
But one of the really special things about this kitchen is what you can’t see – a walk in pantry that runs the length of the main cooking run and is accessed via either end through glazed doors. The pantry has a sink area and plenty of countertop space so it can also be used for baking or preparing cake mixtures etc. With artisan shelves running the full of the pantry, this is the main storage area for dry goods and really easily accessible from the main cooking area.
The flooring is Babington natural limestone from HM Flooring Library.
Bathroom
The bathroom vanity unit in this Tudor Manor House project has Longford cabinetry finished in Portobello Oak with a quartz top and hardware, the taps are finished in polished nickel for a luxurious finish. This dark stained Portobello Oak double vanity unit measures 2.4 metres wide and is designed as an eye catching standalone piece that is both functional and convenient. Featuring the traditional Longford door in an in-frame cabinet with twin mirrors with inset hidden charging cupboard, the vanity offers hidden storage for the family to utilise.
Dressing Room
The large-scale restoration also include bespoke cabinetry in the master bedroom dressing room. The exterior cabinetry finished in light HM ‘Twill’ which as in the kitchen, works so well with the dark Portobello oak interiors and aged brass hardware. Chosen to suit the heritage and style of the home, this colour palette has created a calm and inviting space.

PROJECT DETAILS
This stunning London home has been completely renovated by the homeowners to the very highest standards throughout. Adding an extension to the rear of the property provided an opportunity to embrace open plan living with a sitting area leading to an informal dining area and then onto the kitchen and finally into the garden beyond.
Kitchen
The symmetry of this kitchen is designed to create a balanced look, while the detailing is simple to add to the contemporary feel. The bold colour palette of the kitchen and dining area perfectly suits the space and is softened with accents of natural smoked oak and brass. Drawers are flat-fronted with a quirk bead, while there is a subtle ogee moulding on the door panels. The cabinetry is made using traditional joinery techniques and hand painted on site, and it is that combination of honest craftsmanship with linear design and a modern colour palette that gives it a timeless feel.
Storage
Bridging the tall cabinets on two sides of the room, which contain two pantry cupboards as well as the integrated column fridge and freezer, the island provides further essential storage for this busy family of four as well as island seating which is really convenient for the children to have their meals at as well as a handy spot for coffee and catching up on emails.
Integrating appliances into a kitchen design like this really helps to ensure that the space remains as calm and uncluttered as possible and therefore perfect for modern family living.
Cooking Run
The focal point of the kitchen is without a doubt the large 6 oven black Aga. Traditionally associated with country homes, it’s really lovely to see an Aga in a London family home. The canopy was designed especially for this room: it catches the eye and conceals the extractor. Painted in the same bold black as the island, it helps to anchor the entire design. The clients chose the antiqued distressed effect mirror splashback, which has a softer feel than plain mirror, but still accentuates the light feel of the room.
Drawing Room
Designed by Emma Collins Interiors, the drawing room of this Edwardian family home in Blackheath is painted in ‘Basalt’ by Little Green Paint Company. The original marble fireplace is flanked on either side by bespoke joinery by Humphrey Munson.
Bedroom
At Humphrey Munson we don’t just create dream kitchen spaces, we also create bedroom cabinetry too. The bespoke light grey cabinetry either side of the original fireplace in the guests bedroom frames the space perfectly and provides an abundance of storage for guests. The addition of the painting and brass hardware warms the room giving it a cosy welcoming feel.

PROJECT DETAILS
Reconfiguring a series of rooms and incorporating an orangery style extension provided the starting point for Peter Humphrey, Design Director and Founder of Humphrey Munson, who radically reimagined the single large room into a kitchen, scullery, utility and walk in pantry.
Kitchen
Some projects will instantly reveal the optimum layout in a flash of immediate inspiration, but others like this project in Kent require a ‘back to the drawing board’ approach. At the initial design meeting, the homeowners’ expectations of what was possible went out the window as they were guided through this new design concept: “the radical change that Peter made to the layout of the kitchen has completely transformed it. Everything else about the project is great – the overall design, the quality of the cabinets and finish etc, but it is the change to the layout that has given us a kitchen well beyond anything we could have expected when we first visited the showroom.”
Creating a warm and welcoming setting that the family had dreamed of, the kitchen space now feels calm and uncluttered and has been designed with entertaining in mind. The informal banquette seating at the end of the island is intended for everyday family meals or when a couple of close friends come over for dinner as the formal dining area is located just off the main kitchen. A separate scullery designed by Peter Humphrey ensures that both informal and formal dining areas can be easily cleared away out of sight. An abundance of natural light from the orangery (designed, manufactured and installed by Westbury Garden Rooms) really helps to bring the outside in and create a calming, natural look and feel for this space.
Cooking Run
In terms of the design details, a false chimney provides a focal point for the room and crucially conceals the heavy duty bespoke HM Westin extraction positioned directly above the Gaggenau induction hob and teppanyaki. The chimney is flanked on either side by tall cabinetry housing two Gaggenau single ovens, a Gaggenau combi-steam oven and Gaggenau combi-microwave. At either far end is a Gaggenau integrated refrigerator and Gaggenau integrated freezer.
Island
The island is used as the main food prep area with an under-mounted Kohler sink, Perrin & Rowe Phoenician tap with rinse and a Quooker hot tap finished in polished nickel. Beneath the counter to the left of the sink is a Gaggenau dishwasher and to the right, a Gaggenau vacuum seal drawer and pull out bin. On the other side of the island is a breakfast bar with two Vincent Sheppard stools that guests can sit at and enjoy a drink whilst chatting to the cook.
Dining Area
The other side of the supporting pillar is the HM Langham dining table finished in Portobello Oak to match the cabinetry interiors and Havisham dining chairs. The upholstered banquette seating built into the island provides a comfortable place to sit whilst watching television from the nearby TV unit, or for children to finish homework before dinner is served.
TV Cabinetry
The TV unit has bi-fold doors to conceal the television when not in use. Beneath is an integrated Fisher & Paykel cool drawer used for drinks storage which means the host can grab a bottle of wine or soft drinks quickly rather than walk across the kitchen for them.
The Earl Grey natural limestone flooring is from our HM Flooring Library and is available to order.

PROJECT DETAILS
The homeowners of this Victorian townhouse in Kent chose the Longford design for their new kitchen after viewing our showroom in Felsted, Essex. They wanted a classic kitchen with a contemporary feel which was achieved by using a striking and bold colour palette. The convex curved Longford corner cupboard, finished in period oak, perfectly compliments the concave curved base cupboards below. The wine rack, housed in the central island unit, is also finished in period oak.
Island
The island cabinetry features a dark textured Black Anticato worktop, Franke ceramic sink and Perrin & Rowe tap while the surrounding worktop is a smooth engineered stone that is more scratch, water and stain resistant than the most durable natural stone on the market.
Cooking Run
The homeowners love to cook and entertain at home so the Lacanche Chemin range cooker was a really excellent choice for the space available since it offers two large 55-litre main ovens (gas or electric), a 20-litre electric oven/grill and an 84-litre simmer oven which offers the flexibility to warm plates, hold food and even slow cook.
Storage
The counter top cupboard was designed with three large shelves providing plenty of storage for dry goods, baking ingredients and even the microwave. There are also two spice racks in order to provide maximum storage for all the spices, herbs and seasonings.
