We recently worked with the talented team at Katharine Pooley on a timeless property in Devon – Weatherstone House.

Weatherstone House is the ultimate idyllic and welcoming coastal weekend retreat. The period property is nestled on the English coastline, just a stone’s throw from one of Devon’s prettiest beaches. Developed and extended by Katherine Pooley herself, the property is now a luxurious family holiday home that’s full of personal artworks and curiosities sourced from the Katharine Pooley boutique as well as her many trips abroad.

With four bedrooms (each with an en-suite), the property is an inspiring combination of all things nautical, using a timeless palette of off white, blue, taupe, grey, weathered oak and marble to create a luxurious, peaceful and elegant home from home for the perfect coastal holiday retreat.

Bathed in natural light, each room is cosy and unique and beautifully decorated with nautical elements that bring a feeling of peace and balance. This dining area is located just off the kitchen and has bench seating designed and manufactured by the team at Humphrey Munson, finished in paint colour Goose Iron (made exclusively by Mylands for HM) which works so well with the Smithfield weathered oak Lexington dining table (also made by Humphrey Munson). It really is the ideal spot for a long relaxed dinner together.

The kitchen was designed and manufactured by Humphrey Munson and has been finished in HM paint colour Duffle with Smithfield weathered oak accents and polished nickel hardware throughout giving this space a classic contemporary feel to maintain continuity with the rest of the home. The space has been carefully zoned so that there’s plenty of room for food prep, cooking and clearing away with ease.

As with all kitchen projects, it’s the little details that make the biggest difference day to day. For example, a pull-out toast drawer is perfect for buttering toast straight out of the toaster rather than use up valuable worktop space and it’s also perfect as an additional drinks prep space when making coffee for multiple guests.

The living room features a nautical palette of blues, taupes, ivory and bleached timbers combined with soft, natural textures. Carefully chosen antiques as well as bespoke commissions combine perfectly and seamlessly with elegant soft furnishings and beautiful tonal trims throughout.

Katharine’s vision for this project was to combine a traditional English cottage style – oak beams, roll top baths and limestone floors – with elements of a touch of international New England or Hamptons style. The result is just that, and we love it.

Set within a conservation area, the surrounding village features thatched cottages and spellbinding coastal backdrop. Katharine’s in-house interior architecture team ensured all architectural alterations were approved and undertaken quickly. An extra floor was added and the interior partitions amended to allow a more contemporary open plan feel that also extended outside…

The beautifully designed exterior courtyard extends the living space with a jacuzzi, pizza oven and barbecue – ideal for long warm weekends away with family and friends.
