a solid foundation – Verbier Engineered Oak Flooring

Published:

Luckily for our clients that own the Parsons Green project, they had carte blanche to choose anything they liked for the flooring as the entire house was being renovated so floor levels and weight etc were not an issue as anything could be accommodated.

An early design direction from the clients was a steer towards choosing something that would work universally throughout the entire house – no mean feat for a Lion house in Parsons Green spanning 5 floors. It’s impossible to stress how important the flooring in a home is; this is the foundation you want to get exactly right as once it’s installed you will not want to change it.

So, we’re looking for something that can be used across all levels of the home which immediately rules out stone – both natural and porcelain and that’s helpful because we are then all looking in the same direction – engineered oak. Underfloor heating is used throughout so solid oak was a no-go, and anything other than engineered oak at this point would feel ill-considered and risk a sub-standard finish.

The clients wanted a ‘simple, muted and welcoming’ flooring that could be ordered in both herringbone and plank format. A favourite among so many clients, our Verbier engineered oak flooring offers a beautiful neutral base and is enhanced by the subtle taupe undertone, bringing warmth and balance to any space. We looked at other options but Verbier had the perfect colouring working with each level of the house and the individual rooms.

It’s the colouring of the Verbier that ensures versatility and – as the flooring is intended to flow throughout – it acts as a cohesive neutral backdrop to the colours and textures planned for the interior design scheme.

Balance is always the key with any successful interior design scheme and it’s essential that the flooring allows the architectural and design elements of any space to shine through. The clients selected Verbier engineered oak in a rustic finish as the ideal flooring for their five-storey family home – the natural markings help to create a grounded and relaxed feel.

The herringbone format with a border seamlessly flows through the entrance hall and sets the scene for the whole look and feel of the house, while the plank format is used in the rooms leading off the hallway and the large open plan kitchen and dining space to help define each area, giving it a separate identity.

Attention to detail continued up and down the staircases, which were designed with elements including bespoke curved risers, scotia beading and bullnose edge profiles. As a result, the staircases work with the overall design intention which was to create a warm, inviting and classic interior scheme.

Full of natural light and with generous proportion, the house has been very well planned for busy family life. This view above is taken from the principal bedroom looking into the bathroom – a wonderful grown up space that feels instantly calm and relaxing.
