Thank you for choosing HM. Each piece of furniture or accessory you’ve selected has been crafted with care and designed to last. To help you get the most out of your purchase, we’ve created this simple guide full of tips on how to care for and maintain your items so they stay looking their best for years to come.
Leather upholstery is durable and practical when maintained correctly. To keep your leather upholstery looking its best, general maintenance for pigmented leather consists of regular vacuuming with a brush attachment.
This can be followed by wiping it down thoroughly with a microfibre cloth dampened in a solution of non-detergent soap and water, drying it thoroughly with a separate dry, lint-free, clean cloth.
Leather upholstery will last decades if maintained correctly. If you wish, you can apply an intermittent treatment with a leather conditioner – just avoid any that contain wax or silicone.
Please note: natural variations and markings are entirely consistent with leather and will therefore have traces of origin – including brand marks, scars, growth lines, veins and areas of differing fibre density.
To keep your Perennials fabric looking its best, we recommend cleaning with a natural soap and lukewarm water in the direction of the fabric pile. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and let air dry.
For stubborn marks, products such as OxiClean are generally safe to use; however, before attempting to remove marks, please see a full list of cleaning solutions on the Perennials website here to ensure you pick the correct product.
Perennials also offers a comprehensive video on how to clean their fabrics. To watch, click here.
Using a damp, lint-free cloth (not kitchen towel), wipe over the surface following the grain of the wood, paying careful attention to any particularly stained or dirty areas. Dry using a separate, clean cloth. For grease or other deposits, we use Method multi-purpose cleaner – spray this onto a damp cloth, then wipe over the furniture. Do not use furniture polish or any other cleaning products as they will leave a residue on the surface.
Do not allow any hot, wet, or dirty items to come into direct contact with your furniture/accessories, as this may cause staining and damage the finish. For example, leaving liquids to sit on the surface for any extended time could stain your furniture and may cause the timber to split.
Please be mindful that any timber exposed to natural sunlight will be subject to colour / tone changes due to UV exposure over time.
Please note: HM furniture is finished by hand, and due to the nature of natural timber, slight variations in colour are perfectly normal.
As a hard, non-porous surface, mineral worktops are simple to clean and require no sealing to renew their lustre. In most cases, soap and water or a mild detergent is enough to keep your surfaces looking like new.
Please protect the surfaces from high temperatures (above 150°C /300°F) or sudden extreme temperature changes. Therefore, we suggest that hot pots and trays never be directly placed on the surface.
To remove stuck on materials, gently scrape away the excess with a plastic putty knife or non-scratch pad and then wipe with warm water. Nail varnish (which may occur on a vanity worktop) stains can be removed with denatured alcohol, rinsing thoroughly afterwards. For extra-stubborn stains, a non-scratch Scotch-BriteTM pad is recommended, along with a non-abrasive cleaner, which won’t dull the surface shine.
Like any other surface, quartz can be permanently damaged if exposed to strong chemicals and solvents that affect its physical properties. Avoid the use of strong chemicals and solvents or highly abrasive cleaning agents, such as oven / grill cleaners and dishwasher polishing agents that have high alkaline / pH levels (pH levels higher than 11).
Products containing oils or powders may leave a residue and should be rinsed off thoroughly. Never clean your quartz surface with products that contain Trichloroethane or Methylene Chloride, such as paint removers or strippers. Should your surface accidentally be exposed to any of these damaging products, rinse immediately with warm water to neutralise the effect.
The hardware we supply is made by Joseph Giles. Most are living finishes which will patina with time. For finger marks or smears, a damp lint-free cloth / cotton tea towel is effective. A damp cloth can be used for tougher marks, but ensure to wipe off any residue.
We do not recommend the use of abrasive household cleaners as they will damage the coating and tarnish the finish.
We hope that this guide is helpful in prolonging the finishes of your new furniture. However, if you require more information, please contact us via email at clientservices@humphreymunson.co.uk or call us on 01371 821300.
