PROJECT DETAILS

Clients with older properties often want to keep as many of the original features and personality as possible and this kitchen is no different. Full of quintessential English character this country kitchen was once a series of small dark rooms that has now been transformed into an incredible light and airy kitchen, dining area, walk in pantry, boot room and utility room.

Kitchen

This U-shape kitchen begins at the cooking run to the left which was designed around an existing chimney that could not be altered or removed. Concealed inside the chimney is the Westin extraction unit providing essential extraction for the gas hob below. The splashback is quartz and the same as the surrounding worktops for continuity. To the left of the chimney surrounded by tall cabinetry are the 400 series Gaggenau ovens chosen for their impeccable precision; a combi-steam oven sits above the large pyrolytic oven below to provide ultimate cooking versatility.

Flowing to the right away from the cooking area is the sink run which looks out onto the rolling green countryside beyond. Everything you need to clear away efficiently is in this part of the kitchen – a large Kohler sink is at the centre with a polished nickel Perrin & Rowe Athenian tap with rinse, underneath the counter to the left is a pull-out bin and to the right an integrated Miele dishwasher.

At the far right of the sink run under the counter are two integrated trays, perfect for carrying crockery from the nearby artisan shelves to the dining area, island or vice versa. The open artisan shelving on the right side of the kitchen are a great way to store everyday plates, glasses and larger servingware such as jugs and vases as you can grab what you need without having to root around in cupboards at a moment’s notice. At the end of this run is the counter-top breakfast pantry that offers a plethora of storage. The open shelves above the counter are used to store teas, biscuits, cups etc whilst the countertop below is great for small to medium everyday appliances like a Dualit toaster or baskets of bread. Under the counter to the left of the breakfast cupboard is an integrated fridge ideal for storing things like milk and butter, both within arms-reach of the pantry and island.

Island

The Island is finished in H|M Brolly Blue, a colour that looks completely at home in the calm light surroundings of this space. The side closest to the cooking run has pull out pot drawers, so that pots and pans can be put straight onto the Miele stove ready for ingredients, keeping the kitchen surface clutter free. On the opposite side of the island closest to the breakfast cupboard there is open shelving used to store books and mixing bowls etc. Seating for two has been designed at one end; perfect for checking emails with a cup of coffee from the drinks cupboard in the morning or for children to do their homework after school while the client makes dinner for the family.

Dining Area

Opposite the kitchen is a banquette seating area all designed, manufactured and installed by H|M with a small table that is ideal for low key family dinners.

Walk-In Pantry

Just off the main kitchen is a walk in pantry that offers a huge amount of storage which, for a busy family with young children is ideal. Open artisan shelves hold masses of jars, packs of dried foods and cans whist the quartz worktop below is used for food prep. Under the counter to the right is a deep shelf that has been used as drinks storage. A Miele wine cooler and integrated Miele fridge freezer flank the left side of this pantry, both take cold food and drink storage pressure off the main kitchen and can be shut away out of sight of guests when not in use.

Utility Room

Utility rooms come in all shapes and sizes, this utility in particular is ‘compact luxury’ at its very best. Open artisan shelving keeps baskets and cleaning products out of the reach of little ones and off the countertop keeping the small space clutter free. Stacking this Miele washing machine and tumble dryer is a great way to save space, and makes getting washing in and out of the machines so much easier as you don’t have to reach down and root around for that last sock or towel.

Boot Room

The boot room area is clean, simple but very effective. The bench seat is a dual purpose piece of cabinetry which provides a handy spot to put on or take off boots / wellies, and you can utilise the lift up storage underneath for infrequently used items or shoes. Above the bench seat is an artisan shelf with coat pegs so that coats and jackets are easily accessible when coming in and out of the home.

Petworth Project

This U-shape country kitchen has been designed with Nickleby cabinetry, the perimeter is finished in light H|M paint colour Lapel which compliments the darker island finished in H|M Brolly Blue (both paint colours are exclusive to Humphrey Munson by Mylands). Polished nickel Fielding knobs keeps the cabinetry looking crisp and clean creating the ultimate classic contemporary space.

This Nickleby country kitchen is finished in H|M paint colour Lapel on the perimeter and H|M Brolly Blue on the island. To the left of the kitchen is the cooking run features 400 series Gaggenau ovens and gas hob, the run continues round to a sink run and then to the right of the kitchen is the main storage run with open shelving and a countertop breakfast cupboard. At the centre of the space is the island which provides not only a plethora of storage, but a place for food prep and for children or guests to perch whilst waiting for dinner.
