Warwick House

Warwick House is a contemporary new-build home in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. We were commissioned to design, manufacture and install the principal living spaces. Thoughtful architectural detailing, layered materials and a strong connection to the garden create a series of spaces that feel both open and intimate, designed to support the rhythm of modern life.

The Finer Details

Warwick House is a contemporary new-build home created in collaboration with Howard Pease Architects. We were delighted to be commissioned to undertake the design, manufacturing and installation of the open plan kitchen, dining and snug, utility/boot room and study.

From the very beginning, the design centred on how this open plan part of the house would be used day to day. It’s where mornings begin, meals are prepared, conversations unfold and evenings roll in.

Zoning was a key driver: a kitchen clearly organised for prepping, cooking and spending time together, informal dining provided by a much-loved banquette, a generous formal dining table seating eight comfortably (and ten with ease thanks to its width) and a cosy soft seating area for unwinding.

The inclusion of the banquette was something the clients felt strongly about, having seen it in one of our previous projects; it was high up on their wish list and it really steered the kitchen layout. Next to the banquette, there is an additional soft seating area that creates a natural pause point, overlooking the beautiful terrace and garden. It is a quiet spot for coffee in the morning or early evening drinks with the doors open.

Although open in concept, subtle architectural decisions cleverly divide the space. A deliberate step down into the main soft seating area makes it feel connected yet distinct – a little more enclosed and a little more snug. Warm Vale engineered oak flooring, a generous Crucial Trading rug and deep, comfortable chairs enhance that sense of retreat.

Structural pillars, required due to the scale of the open-plan space were carefully integrated within bespoke Portobello oak slatted detailing and a bookshelf so that practicality quietly disappears into design.

The everyday desk in the kitchen reflects this layered approach to living. A smaller, more discreet television sits above the kitchen desk and is ideal for background viewing, while the main media unit at the other end anchors the primary soft seating area for proper movie nights and evenings in. Importantly, the desk area itself was designed to feel separate from the main office, connected to family life, yet distinct enough for focus.

Even the garden was considered an extension of the kitchen. Designed afterwards to ensure alignment, the outdoor seating sits just beyond the patio doors nearest to the kitchen, making dining outside feel completely natural and wonderfully easy.

Warwick House is a contemporary new-build home created in collaboration with Howard Pease Architects, where we were commissioned to design, manufacture and install the principal living spaces, including the open plan kitchen, dining and snug. From the outset, the scheme was shaped around daily life, with carefully considered zoning that balances cooking, dining, relaxing and working in one cohesive environment. We also designed, made and installed the bootility room and the study.
