In honour of National Burger Day, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite recipes for meat free burgers. It wasn’t that long ago that if you chose the “veggie burger” off a menu you were pretty much guaranteed a sort of cardboard affair – well, haven’t times changed… Today there are so many fantastic vegetarian and vegan burger recipes we struggled to chose just 5 but here goes…

This recipe for the Ultimate Veggie Burger from The Awesome Green is absolutely first class – made using beetroot and quinoa as the base ingredients is fantastic and creates a crispy-on-the-outside, succulent and smokey flavouring on the inside. The avocado-tahini dressing and baked sweet potato fries are out of this world too.

Ever reliable and always pulling a punch with the sides, a Pinch of Yum have nailed this recipe for Spicy Cauliflower Burgers.

At this time of the year when there are huge gluts of courgettes, it can be difficult coming up with new and interesting ways of using them up and let’s face it, who can possibly stomach any more courgetti?! Queue, the roasted courgette burger with whipped garlic feta by Half Baked Harvest – the key is in the roasting of the courgette so the burgers pack a real flavour punch.

4.  C A R R O T ,  T A H I N I  &  Q U I N O A  B U R G E R

Perfect for using up leftover carrots, these carrot, tahini and quinoa burgers from The Rhurbarbarians look so bright and colourful they would be impossible to resist.

5.  L E N T I L  &  C H I C K P E A  V E G G I E  B U R G E R

These veggie burgers by Nina Olsson are the best especially with the dill and mustard sauce! We love Nina’s recipes at HM and her book Bowls of Goodness is a firm favourite in our showroom kitchens.
