PROJECT DETAILS
A Georgian country house reimagined, redesigned and reinvigorated for the young family taking up residence in this historic family home in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside.

This open plan space required significant architectural input from Alex McIntyre Architects who provided a comprehensive architectural service from inception to completion and the end result is just absolutely spot on. Light, airy and spacious but with a welcoming feel, this open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room benefits from a wealth of natural light and generous proportions.

Kitchen
The kitchen has an understated classic focal point with the AGA positioned in the original chimney. The island was deliberately left clear so that the clients could have plenty of space to prepare food on a big scale! Frequently used to entertaining numerous weekend guests, this is a hard-working kitchen that needed lots of room for food prep and cooking, but also clearing away. The scullery run has a large double cast iron sink with an open glass storage wall cabinet designed with hanging space below used for glassware that does not go into the dishwasher.

In terms of food storage, the large French door fridge freezer is integrated behind cabinetry and positioned next to a butler’s pantry cupboard so that it feels more like a piece of freestanding furniture.

Pantry
A walk in pantry with another fridge freezer and masses of space for food storage provides the essential overflow needed for entertaining on a big scale.

Boot Room
A separate boot room with hand-painted Nickleby cabinetry finished in the aptly named paint colour H|M ‘Grouse’, provides a handy spot to decamp after being outdoors with a large butler sink positioned under the window. This is an original butler sink from the older part of the house and cleaned up and reused here as a nod to the heritage of the house.

The clients wanted open storage for coats and boots so we designed the bench so that wellies can fit underneath. Everything is easy to reach but we also incorporated a bank of tall cupboards to provide further storage. Integrated dog beds provide an area for tired pups to crash out after being out in the field all day.

This kitchen island is finished in H|M paint colour ‘Brolly Blue’ and has been left deliberately clear so that there’s always plenty of space to prepare food on a big scale. The side closest to the cooking run is used for food preparation whilst the far side of the island has a wine refrigeration unit and Vincent Sheppard seating for two, this means drinks can be served to guests at the table without disturbing the cook.

This Georgian country house kitchen was reimagined by Humphrey Munson to become an understated classic Nickleby kitchen, dining and living space designed for both family living and entertaining at the weekends. The perimeter cabinetry is finished in H|M colour ‘Tailored Grey’ which works in perfect contrast with the much darker island finished in H|M ‘Brolly Blue’ both of which work so well with aged brass hardware.

Concealed behind these Nickleby cabinetry doors finished in H|M paint colour ‘Tailored Grey’ is a countertop drinks cupboard with a Smithfield oak interior.

This countertop drinks cupboard has a Smithfield oak interior with open shelving and racks on the back of doors to help keep cups, teas and coffees etc neat and tidy.

Concealed behind these Nickleby cabinetry doors finished in H|M paint colour ‘Tailored Grey’ are Smithfield oak swan neck drawers for storing away items like crockery, baking goods or pots and pans.

Smithfield oak swan neck drawers are ideal for storing pots and pans as they expel the need to root around in the back of cupboards and can then be concealed by cabinetry doors to look like a cupboard.

Just off the main kitchen is a walk in pantry than offers a plethora of open storage that takes huge amounts of pressure off the open plan entertaining space.

Open artisan shelves are ideal for jars and smaller packets of dried foods, a quartz worktop below can be utilised for small appliances like a KitchenAid mixer and food prep whilst the deep shelves beneath hold large pots, pans and hampers.
