PROJECT DETAILS

An entertaining space through and through, this light and airy kitchen / dining area is the perfect addition to this beautiful family home in Tunbridge Wells.

The orangery extension designed and manufactured by Westbury Garden Rooms provides plenty of light and space for the new Humphrey Munson kitchen and dining area which has a bespoke refectory table finished in the same accent wood as the kitchen. The combination of painted cabinetry with the dark Portobello wood accent, polished nickel hardware and light quartz worktops creates a layered look and feel that ensures the space feels perfectly balanced.

Kitchen

The original kitchen was much smaller and darker but the addition of an orangery helped to breathe new life into the space. As you walk in you see the large island which is finished in our bespoke colour H|M Brolly Blue, and provides an essential visual anchor to the open plan room. Used primarily for food prep and providing masses of storage, the island has a small prep sink and Perrin & Rowe tap located opposite the cooking run, a knife drawer is handily situated under the counter to the left of the sink with a pull-out bin beneath keeping everything you need for food prep in one place.

On the far side of the island is a breakfast bar finished in Portobello oak which provides seating for three. Positioned adjacent to the breakfast bar is the Fisher & Paykel refrigeration/ freezer cool drawer which is perfect for grabbing a chilled bottle of wine for guests sat at one of the Havisham counter stools or the nearby dining table.

Cooking Run

The main cooking run features an impressive five oven AGA range cooker set within a false chimney. Concealed above is a bespoke Westin extraction unit and within the chimney either side of the AGA are open niches used to store everyday herbs, salt and pepper etc, within handy reaching distance. Behind the range cooker is an antique effect mirror splashback – perfect for bouncing light back across the room as well as keeping a conversation going with guests sat at the island.

Storage

Concealed behind painted Nickleby cabinetry just to the left of the AGA is a breakfast pantry which provides the perfect mix of open and closed storage, concealing an integrated Miele microwave as well as other small appliances like a Dualit toaster. Spice racks on the doors provide easy access to essential condiments, whilst the closed storage beneath the cold shelf is used for other items that you may want to hide away out of sight.

To the left of the island is a Sub-Zero fridge/ freezer which provides masses of cold food storage close to both the food prep area and the dining area so nibbles and drinks can be served to guests without getting in the way of the cook. The nearby H|M refectory dining table seats 10-12 people which was a must-have for the busy family who wanted the freedom to have friends and relatives over in the evenings and weekends.

Sink Run

On the far right-hand side of the kitchen is the main sink run and concealed walk-in pantry. Above the sink run is open shelving with a plate rack at the centre. The plate rack interior is finished in Portobello oak which looks incredible against the painted H|M cabinetry used on the perimeter, either side of the plate rack are two sets of three mirrored glass shelves which keeps this run feeling light and bright. Below is the main sink run which features a large Kohler sink, a Perrin & Rowe Athenian Tap with rinse and Quooker hot tap finished in polished nickel. Under the counter to the left of the sink is an integrated Miele dishwasher and to the right, a pull-out bin to help make clearing away after dinner quick and easy.

Walk-In Pantry

Last but not least a walk-in pantry is hidden away behind a door to the left of the main sink run. Open storage helps to maximise this small but mighty room with the open artisan shelving above used for jars and large serving ware. The cold shelf below stores large everyday appliances like a KitchenAid mixer and beneath the counter, deep shelves are used to store large baskets and hampers which can all be shut away keeping the kitchen free of unwanted and unnecessary clutter.
