4 Ways to Incorporate a Bench Seat into a Kitchen Design

Published:

Bench seating is a subtle refined addition to open plan family kitchen spaces. With the option for additional storage either with a lift up lid or pull-out drawers you can keep all manner of things neat and tidy and out of sight of the main kitchen whilst enjoying 5 minutes of down time with a magazine and a coffee. We’ve put together a selection of projects that specified bench seating as part of the kitchen.

The bench seat in the Georgian farmhouse project is located just along from the Lacanche range cooker in the corner of the kitchen, underneath a large Georgian sash window that floods this corner of the room with natural light. This spot has been designed as a subtle refuge from the rest of the busy kitchen and is ideal for reading or catching up on emails with a cup of tea or coffee. Beneath the seat are two pull out drawers providing additional storage for smaller items you may not necessarily store in the main kitchen. There’s also shelving to the right hand side of the marble fireplace which has been designed to store the home audio system and cookery books.

The bench seat at the Gerrards Cross project is located in the the prep kitchen. This project actually has two Nickleby kitchens in one space – there is the main kitchen with the AGA run and island, and a second prep kitchen with a Nickleby prep table, large countertop cupboards and bench seating. Finished in HM Paint colour ‘Cuffs’ this calm, light space has storage beneath (in the form of pull-out drawers) and is perfect for perusing a cook book with a cup of tea before a morning of baking.
