Debra’s previous business and management experience, both in a blue chip fashion company and working for a highly recognised and respected interior design company, has enabled her to establish a professional design practice that organises and runs complex and diverse projects with confidence and ease.

So many aspects of what dk INTERIORS do are synonymous with how we work here at HM, and as a design company, they are such a pleasure to work with. The Hampstead Project for example (pictured above) is a shining example of our two companies working together.

It’s not groundbreaking news that you need a tremendous level of attention to detail to go into a full scale refurbishment, especially when it’s a substantial Grade II listed detached family home in Hampstead. We worked with the clients, dk INTERIORS, contractors Prod UK and architects Carver Farshi on the Hampstead project to create a kitchen, utility / boot room and pantry that combined traditional cabinet-making with a contemporary twist.

The brief from the client was to create a kitchen that was built to last –  both in terms of the design and the quality; future-proofing was always the end goal. Specifying the Spenlow cabinetry was an immediate and easy choice to ensure the cabinetry felt sleek and contemporary with the perimeter cabinetry painted in HM ‘Tailored Grey’ and the island painted in HM ‘Brolly Blue’ to really help anchor it within the room. The Quilp knobs on the cabinetry are finished in aged brass which really helps to soften the otherwise cool colour palette.

The kitchen (by HM) and nearby dining area (designed by dk INTERIORS) combine to create a contemporary aesthetic with brass finishes and industrial stainless steel appliances, all with a view of the garden. The overall look and feel is a classic London home designed with modern family living in mind…

This Hampstead project really is the best of both worlds. Every detail of the home has been so carefully assessed and implemented throughout the design process to ensure this project stays true to the original brief and provides the family with a series of spaces that are all about relaxed, sociable living that flows from room to room.

Balanced design and soft palettes with a hint of colour has determined a wonderfully peaceful environment in rooms like this bedroom / study, providing a younger member of the family with a refuge to undertake school work or simply sit and enjoy a favourite book.

“Style for me is the key driver but the majority of clients particularly with busy lifestyles, families and pets all need practicality too. This is always a consideration and part of the brief we explore before designing a home or rooms. Highlighting to a client the practicality of the end use of materials plays a key role in the job, such as work surfaces that may stain, fabrics that may mark etc. However, we strive to achieve the overall look first and foremost and fulfil the brief that has been agreed at the same time pushing design boundaries. It is a designer’s responsibility to be so aware and to make a client aware of the fit for purpose of all aspects of design.”

“Each project and client is so unique however to start the process off is the same. I always explore the brief thoroughly with the client, exploring their lifestyles, their wants and needs, likes and dislikes as well as their vision / end goal. The majority of clients can clearly articulate their end goal but not always their aesthetic vision and style, we aid in this process through exploring with them mood boards through Pinterest and other social media means as well as magazines, books, art, culture even their favourite items of clothing and furniture.”
