Humphrey Munson wins Best Transitional Kitchen

Published:

Something quite amazing and unexpected happened last Thursday evening – we won the Sub-Zero & Wolf Kitchen Design Contest. It’s one of the biggest awards in the kitchen design industry and to be quite honest, it still hasn’t really sunk in yet. The kitchen we entered in the contest was the Ashurst House project and it was designed by Peter Humphrey, Design Director and Founder of Humphrey Munson. There were several elements to the criteria that you needed to fulfil to qualify, but the main one was that the kitchen must contain both Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

The Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest attracts not only a panel of extremely well-respected and talented judges but also the entries come from the very best kitchen designers around the world so the standard is exceptionally high. This was the first time we entered the competition so to have won Best Traditional Kitchen for the UK & Europe was just unbelievable!

The winning project – Ashurst House project is a real one-of-a-kind kitchen. It has a large open plan kitchen with an extra large kitchen island, a 12 seater dining table in the Orangery, a scullery, walk-in larder flanked by Sub-Zero wine preservation and a fridge freezer as well as a spacious boot room. As kitchens go, this one really does have it all and it looks like the judges agreed. It was designed by the Design Director and Founder, Peter Humphrey who commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this award, it means a huge amount to everyone at Humphrey Munson and we look forward to representing the UK & Europe in Arizona later this year“.

Sub-Zero & Wolf released some details from the judges’ comments so we were able to see exactly what it was that they loved so much – “exquisitely detailed“, “so charming” and “quintessentially British“.

So the next really exciting bit of news is that Humphrey Munson, together with fellow winners Bulthaup & Millgate Homes will represent the UK and Europe at the Summit and Gala Event to be held at the Fairmont Princess Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona in September 2015. This is a 4 day event which will celebrate all the regional winners’ achievements and includes a Gala dinner where Sub-Zero & Wolf 2013-2014 KDC Global Winners will be announced.

To celebrate the win, over the weekend we took our instagram followers on a tour of the Ashurst House project, revealing additional details about the project as we went – you can search for it under #AshurstHouseTour or go to our instagram page here to take a look.
